Second Quarter Heroics Propel Oilers Past Yellow Jackets

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team rallied to pick up a home win by a score of 70-69 against Cedarville University on Feb. 18. The victory gives the Oilers a 7-19 record on the season with a 4-14 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). 

The Oilers found themselves down 27-8 early in the second quarter before going on an 18-0 run to pull within one. They then remained hot in the quarter, eventually taking a 39-36 lead at the break. Findlay then held a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter before Cedarville stormed back to a take a 69-68 advantage with only 16 seconds remaining. Freshman Alyssa Ziehler was then fouled and made both of her free throw attempts to go up one at 70-69. The Oilers defense then stayed strong in the final ten seconds of the game as Findlay snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory. 

Ziehler led the Oilers with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting. She made all eight of her free throw attempts and also chipped in nine rebounds and two assists. 

Junior Kate Ellis recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards while senior Lauren Hapgood and sophomore McKenna Stephens posted nine points apiece off the bench. Stephens also grabbed seven rebounds and knocked down three triples in the game. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by Lydia Sweeney's 20 points. 

The Oilers will be back in action again on Feb. 23 when they travel to Tiffin University for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
