Oilers Tie for Second at Dayton Fall Invitational

Kettering, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's golf team wrapped up the Dayton Fall Invitational on Oct. 15 by taking second among a field made up of primarily NCAA Division I teams. The Oilers shot a 36-hole score of 608 (303, 305) and were only three strokes shy of Butler University, who won the tournament wiht a 605 (300, 305).

The Oilers, who are ranked sixth in NCAA Division II, were led by sophomore Jill Schmitmeyer. Schmitmeyer finished fifth overall with a two-day score of 150 (76-74). Freshman Danbi Kim fired a 152 (77-75), which was the 11th-best mark at the tournamnet while junior Kristina Kniesly (75-78) and senior Meredith Wipper (77-76) secured a tie for 13th after carding a 36-hole total of 153.

Senior Mackenzie Keenoy carded a two-day total of 165 (83-82) as well for Findlay at the event.

The Oilers will now take some time off before resuming activites in the spring. The first tournament of the spring will be played on March 14-15 at the Saginaw Valley State University Spring Invite in Georgetown, Kentucky. The Oilers have had success at this tournament in the past, and will look to repeat as tournament champions as they won the SVSU Spring Invite last spring.
