Oilers in 2nd After 36 Holes

The University of Findlay women's golf team is in second place after 36 holes at the Indianapolis Fall Invitational, which is being held at Prairie View Golf Club in Camrel, Ind. The Oilers shot a 298 in round one and followed with a 300 in round two for a total of 598 during the opening round of competition on Sep. 14. They trail first place Indianapolis, who carded a 583.

Senior Meredith Wipper and junior Jill Schmitmeyer led the team on day one as they are both tied for fifth with a 3-over par score of 147. Wipper posted an even-round par score of 72 during the first 18 holes of the day and came back with a 75 during the final 18 holes for her score. Schmitmeyer meanwhile posted a 74 in round one before carding a 1-over score of 73 in round two.

Sophomore Danbi Kim is right behind Wipper and Schmitmeyer in the standings as she is tied for seventh with a 150 (75, 75) while freshman Gabby Woods is tied for 14th with a 154 (77, 77). Woods is also third at the tournament in birdies, making five so far.

Senior Kristina Kniesly posted a 158 (80, 78) and is tied for 18th while freshman Abby Jones is tied for 28th with a 163 (84, 79).

The third and final round of the tournament will be played tomorrow.
