Oilers Take Runner-Up in Lexington | Wipper Ties School Record

Lexington, Ky. – It came down to the final hole on Tuesday, March 23 at the Findlay Spring Invite in Lexington, Ky. Findlay and Grand Valley State were all knotted up with two holes to play and it was the Lakers who came away victorious at the University Club of Kentucky. The Oilers took runner-up in the event with an 887 (+23) which is good for the second-best 54-hole score in school history. Today's final round of 289 (+1) ties the fourth-best 18-hole round in program history, as well.

The Oilers top finisher was freshman Gabby Woods who earned all-tournament honors with a 215 (-1), tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Woods started the day with a birdie on the 16th hole and wrapped concluded her second round, which was postponed from the day before, with a 69 (-3). For the event, Woods took advantage of the Par 5s as she was second in the tournament at six-under on those holes. She also finished second in the event with 11 total birdies.

Senior Meredith Wipper also had a big day for the Oilers, firing off a 67 (-5) in her final round to finish fourth in the event. The Hilton Head native had a putt on the 18th hole for a 66, but just missed to earn the third 67 of her career, tying the program record. Wipper's three-round total was 217 (+1).

In a tie for tenth was junior Jill Schmitmeyer who shot a 75 (+3) on Tuesday to finish the event with a 227 (+11) while senior Kristina Kniesly, whose round included a chip-in for eagle in the Par 5 seventh hole, wrapped up the event with a 75 (+3) to finish in a tie for 15th with a 229 (+13).

Junior Danbi Kim rounded out the Oilers lineup with a 79 (+7) in the final round and finished in a tie for 34th with a 235 (+19).

Sophomore Lexis Fickel played well as she posted three sub-80 rounds in the tournament. On Tuesday, Fickel shot a 78 (+6) and finished the tournament with a 236 (+20). Freshman Jordan Pruitt ended the event tied for 57th. Despite an 87 in the opening round, Pruitt put together back-to-back 78's (+6) to finish with a 243.

Findlay is back on the course on Monday, April 5 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the NC4K Classic
