Schmitmeyer Leads Cav Classic | Oilers in 2nd

The 9th-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team is in second place after day one of the Cav Classic, which was held on April 11 at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio. The Oilers shot a 299 on the first day of competition and are one stroke behind Grand Valley State University, who fired a 298.

Junior Jill Schmitmeyer led the Oilers and is in sole possession of first place after carding a 2-under par round of 70. Schmitmeyer posted five birdies on the day, which was the best in the field.

Senior Meredith Wipper also played well and is tied for fifth with a 2-over par score of 74 while senior Kristina Kniesly is tied for 11th with a 77.

Junior Danbi Kim posted a 78 and is tied for 14th while freshman Gabby Woods had a 79 on day one and is tied for 22nd.

Individually, freshman Sarah Scarpill carded a 78 and is tied for 14th while sophomore Lexis Fickel had a 79 and is tied for 22nd.

Freshman Jordan Pruitt is also competing for Findlay at the event and is tied for 57th with a 92.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
