Schmitmeyer Wins | Oilers Finish 2nd
The 9th-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team took runner-up honors at the Cav Classic, which wrapped up on April 12 at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio. The Oilers shot a 36-hole score of 598 (299, 299) to finish just two strokes shy of Grand Valley State University who ended with a 596 (298, 298).
Junior Jill Schmitmyer led the team and took home her second career tournament title with a 2-under par score of 142, the fourth-best mark in program history. Schmitmeyer carded a 2-under par score of 70 in the first round on Sunday before shooting an even-par 72 in the final round. Her seven birdies during the tournament ranked second amongst the field.
Senior Kristina Kniesly tied for fifth with a 150 after posting a 77 in round one and a 1-over par 73 in round two. Kniesly also recorded seven birdies at the tournament.
Senior Meredith Wipper finished eighth with a 154 (74, 80) while junior Danbi Kim tied for ninth with a 155 (78, 77).
Freshman Gabby Woods rounded out the Oilers team with a score of 156 (79, 77).
Individually, freshman Sarah Scarpill tied for 17th with a 157 (78, 79), sophomore Lexis Fickel tied for 24th with a 160 (79, 81), while freshman Jordan Pruitt tied for 45th with a 175 (92, 83).
The Oilers will be in action again on April 16-17 at UK Big Blue for the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship.
