Schmitmeyer Leads Regional | Oilers in 2nd

The University of Findlay women's golf team is one stroke off the lead after the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division II East Regional, which wrapped up on May 3 at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. The Oilers shot a 299 and are chasing the University of Indianapolis, who fired a 298 on day one.

Junior Jill Schmitmeyer led the Oilers on the first day of competition and is in a tie for the tournament-lead after posting an even-par round of 72. Schmitmeyer posted recorded 13 pars and sprinkled in three birdies during her round.

Senior Meredith Wipper is tied for fifth after shooting a 2-over par score of 74 while junior Danbi Kim is tied for tenth with a 4-over par score of 76. Wipper had three birdies on the day while Kim registered two.

Senior Kristina Kniesly carded a 77 and is tied for 15th while freshman Gabby Woods posted a 79 and is tied for 21st at the tournament.

The tournament will continue tomorrow and end on Wednesday with the top three teams advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
