Oilers Advance to National Championship | Take 2nd at Regional

The University of Findlay women's golf team is headed back to the NCAA Division II National Championship after recording a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II East Regional on May 5 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. The Oilers shot a 54-hole score of 912 (299, 300, 313).

Junior Jill Schmitmeyer and senior Meredith Wipper led the Oilers at the event as they both tied for fourth with three-round totals of 224. Schmitmeyer, who led the event after 36 holes, posted a 72 in the opening round, a 73 in the second, and a 79 in the third. Wipper meanwhile recorded a 74 in each of the first two rounds before shooting a 76 during the final 18 holes of competition.

freshman Gabby Woods (79, 81, 75) and junior Danbi Kim (76, 76, 83) tied for 15th with a 235 while senior Kristina Kniesly tied for 20th with a 238 (77, 77, 84).

The University of Indianapolis won the event with a score of 890 (298, 291, 301) and will join the Oilers and Grand Valley State University (308, 299, 318 – 925) as the representatives from the East Region at the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship, which will take place on May 11-15 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Mich.
