Oilers Finish Second at Gilda’s Club Laker Fall Invitational | M. Mulcahy Earns All- Tournament Honors

Allendale, Michigan- The University of Findlay women's golf team finished in second place today at the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State University. The Oilers finished the 36-hole, one day event with a total of 611 (304, 307). They found themselves eleven strokes behind the leader, Grand Valley State University at the conclusion of play today, Sep. 25.  

Leading the Oilers was freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy. M. Mulcahy finished seven- over par, 151 (73, 78). This gave her a top-five finish, the first of her career, and led her to receive all-tournament honors. M. Mulcahy was atop the field in total birdies with seven over both rounds.  

Assisting M. Mulcahy were sophomore Gabby Woods and senior Jill Schmitmeyer. Woods and Schmitmeyer both posted nine-over par scores (153) leaving them in a tie for sixth place. Woods opened the day with a 78 (+6) and came back with a 75 (+3) in the final round. Schmitmeyer started with a 76 (+4) in the opening round and closed with a 77 (+5).  

Senior Kristina Kniesly finished in a tie for eighth with an eleven-over par score for the day (78, 77).  

Rounding out the lineup was senior Danbi Kim. Kim finished at fourteen- over par (77,81) leaving her in a tie for fifteenth place.  

Competing individually in the tournament was freshman Erin Mulcahy. E. Mulcahy finished in a tie for 27th at nineteen-over par (83, 80).  

As a team, Findlay led par five scoring averaging 4.98 over the 36-holes. They also led the total amount of birdies with 26. 

The Oilers are right back in action, tomorrow Sep. 26 as they travel to Big Rapids, Michigan for the Ferris State Invitational.
