Record Breaking Day for the Oilers at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial

Dahlonega, Georgia- The University of Findlay women's golf team is in second place after the first day of competition at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial hosted by the University of North Georgia. The Oilers shot a 1-under par, 36-hole score of 575 (291, 284) and are twelve shots behind Limestone University, who are 13-under par at 563.  

Competing in the tournament are seven teams that are in the top-25 in the nation, including the number one team in the nation, Dallas Baptist University, per the Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll.  

The Oilers broke two different records today. They broke the 18-hole scoring record with their second round score of 284, topping the previous record of 287 that was set in 2018 at the Dayton Invitational. They also broke the 36-hole scoring record with their total of 575, beating the previous record of 581 at the Illinois-Springfield Invitational in 2018.  

The Oilers were led by senior Jill Schmitmeyer who is tied for third with a 3-under par 141 (71,70). Schmitmeyer averaged 2.88 (-1) on the par threes, 3.95 (-1) on the par fours, and 4.88 (-1) on the par fives. Her 3-under par score after 36 holes is tied for the lowest in school history relative to par. 

Alongside Schmitmeyer was senior Kristina Kniesly. Kniesly shot even-par 144 (75,69) and is in eleventh place. Kniesly's 69 is the third-best score in program history and two shots away from the school record that she holds with Meredith Wipper and Kasey (Petty) Miller.  

Assisting the team was senior Danbi Kim who shot a one-over par 145 (73,72) and is in a tie for 12th. Kim fought back in her first round after a triple bogey as she followed it with three birdies. Her final round consisted of two pars and two bogeys.  

Sophomore Gabby Woods contributed scores of 75,73 (+4) and is tied for 30th place with a 148. Rounding out the lineup is freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy who shot rounds of 72 and 77 (+5) and is tied for 36th with a 149.  

Competing as an individual is Erin Mulcahy. She shot rounds of 74 and 79 (+9) and is tied 60th with a 153.  

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow Oct. 12 for the final round with a shotgun start at 9am.
