Oilers Win Big in Spring Debut | Woods Captures Individual Title

Sevierville, Tenn.- The 7th-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team finished in first place at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, which wrapped up play today, Mar. 15 at the Sevierville Golf Club hosted by Tennessee Tech University. The Oilers shot a 25-over par (294, 299). The Oilers won the tournament by sixteen shots over Carson-Newman University and a primarily NCAA Division I field. 

Sophomore Gabby Woods led the Oilers from start to finish as she picked up the individual win as well. She finished four-over par (72,74). She won in exciting fashion, beating North Alabama's Jahnavi Prakhya in a score card playoff. Woods led the field in birdies made with eight over the two days. This is her second career win. She captured her first win last year at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship before being named G-MAC Freshman of the Year.  

Seniors Jill Schmitmeyer and Kristina Kniesly finished right behind Woods, they both shot five-over par. Schmitmeyer shot 75,72 while Kniesly shot 74,73. They tied for third. 

Freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy finished tied for 17th at 11-over par (73,80). Rounding out the lineup was senior Danbi Kim who finished tied for 42nd at 18-over par (79,81).  

Competing individually, both sophomore Sarah Scarpill and freshman Erin Mulcahy tied for 24th. They shot 13-over par, Scarpill shot rounds of 78,77 while freshman Erin Mulcahy shot 76,79. 

The Oilers will be back in action Mar. 19 and 20 at the SVSU Spring Invite in Georgetown, Ky.
