Oilers One Shot Back of Leader | Kniesly, Woods, Schmitmeyer Atop Leaderboard

Lexington, Ky.- The University of Findlay women's golf team wrapped up round one and two of the Findlay Spring Invite today, Mar. 21 at the University Club of Kentucky, Big Blue Course. Through 36 holes the Oilers, which are ranked seventh in the country, sit in second place after posting rounds of 295 (+7) and 294 (+6) for a 589 (+13) on the day. They trail the fifth ranked, Anderson University (SC) by one stroke. 

The Oilers boast the top three players on the leaderboard after the first day of competition. Leading the way is senior Kristina Kniesly. She is currently in first place overall after rounds of 71 (-1) and 70 (-2) putting her at three-under par. She recorded six birdies, three bogeys, and twenty-seven pars. Kniesly is coming off of a win last weekend at the SVSU Spring Invitational. She will make a run tomorrow to try and capture her fourth individual title.  

Right behind Kniesly is sophomore Gabby Woods. She is in second place at one-over par (75,70). She is four strokes behind the lead. Woods is also coming off a win from two weeks ago and is in the hunt for her third individual title.  

Following Woods is senior all-American, Jill Schmitmeyer who is at two-over par. Schmitmeyer put together rounds of 73 (+1) and 73 (+1). Schmitmeyer carded seven birdies on the day, the second best in the field. 

Freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy is tied for 27th place at thirteen-over par (76,81). Rounding out the lineup was senior Danbi Kim who is tied for 48th at nineteen-over par (79,84). 

Competing as individuals in the event were freshman Erin Mulcahy, sophomore Sarah Scarpill, and junior Lexis Fickel. E. Mulcahy is currently six-over par (77,73) and is tied for ninth at the event while Scarpill is eighteen-over par (80,82), which is good for 45th. Fickel meanwhile is at 22-over par (80,86) and is tied for 58th.  

Findlay will wrap up the Findlay Spring. Invite tomorrow, Mar. 22 with a shotgun start at 9am.
