Oilers Win 3rd Straight | Kniesly Wins Another

The 7th-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team won their third straight tournament as they claimed first place at the Findlay Spring Invitational in a playoff on March 22 in Lexington, Ky. The Oilers finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 888 (295, 294, 299), the fourth-lowest total in school history.

The Oilers finished the third round in a tie with 5th-ranked Anderson University, but won the playoff as senior Jill Schmitmeyer and sophomore Gabby Woods posted birdies while senior Kristina Kniesly recorded a par during the extra session.

Kniesly once again led the way as she picked up her second straight tournament title with a 1-over par score of 217. She shot a 71 in the opening round before coming back with a 70 in the second. She then finished the tournament with a 76 to win by two strokes over Woods, who finished with a 3-over par 219 (75, 70, 74).

Schmitmeyer meanwhile took home fourth place with a 5-over par score of 221 (73, 73, 75) while freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy tied for 19th with a 231 (76, 81, 74).

Senior Danbi Kim rounded out the Oilers team finishers with a 243 (79, 84, 80), which was good for 47th at the event.

Kniesly, Woods, and Schmitmeyer all earned a spot on the all-tournament team for their performance at the event.

Individually, freshman Erin Mulcahy tied for 24th with a 233 (77, 73, 83) while sophomore Sarah Scarpill tied for 35th with a 239 (80, 82, 77). Junior Lexis Fickel also competed for Findlay and tied for 58th with a 248 (80, 86, 82).

The Oilers will be back in action again on April 4-5 when they compete at the NC4K Classic in Blacklick, Ohio.
