Oilers Complete Shaky First Round | Lead By One at Cav Classic

Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's golf team wrapped up day one of the Cav Classic, hosted by Walsh University, today Apr. 11 at Glenmoor Country Club. The Oilers sent two teams to the tournament.

The "A Team" is currently in first place after shooting a round of 304 (+16) and sit one-shot ahead of regional foe Grand Valley State University.  

For the third time this season, senior Kristina Kniesly holds the day one lead. Kniesly, who is ranked by Golfstat as the 28th best player in Division II women's golf, posted an even par round of 72 and is currently tied for first place. She carded an opening nine score of 34 which included three birdies and a bogey and a back nine score of 38 in which she carded three bogeys and a birdie. 

Freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy finished right behind Kniesly, finishing at one-over par. Her round of 73 puts her in a tie for third. M. Mulcahy's highlight on her scorecard came on the twelfth hole. She carded an eagle on the 315 yard par 4. M. Mulcahy holed her wedge shot from 95 yards. She was the only person in the field to record an eagle today. 

Senior Jill Schmitmeyer is in ninth place at four-over par (76). Sophomore Sarah Scarpill made her debut in the starting lineup this week. She carded an eleven-over par score of 83. Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Gabby Woods. Woods, who is coming off an individual title at the NC4K Classic, is tied for 48th at twelve-over par (84). 

The "B Team" is in sixth place out of fifteen teams. They shot 319 (+31). 

They were led by freshman Erin Mulcahy. Mulcahy carded a 72 to put her in a tie for first with teammate Kristina Kniesly. E. Mulcahy shot a 35 (-1) on the front nine which included a stretch of three birdies on the sixth, seventh, and eighth holes. 

Senior Danbi Kim is in a tie for 19th after carding a round of 78 (+6). Sophomore Jordan Pruitt is in 35th at ten-over par (82). Junior Lexis Fickel is in a tie for 65th after a round of 87 (+15). Rounding out the "B Team" lineup was sophomore Abby Jones who is tied for 75th with a eighteen-over par, 90.

Both Oilers team will be back for the final round tomorrow, Apr. 12 with a shotgun start at 9am. They look to remain perfect this spring and pick up their fifth win.
