Oilers Sweep Spring Season | M. Mulcahy Takes Title

Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's golf team completed the Cav Classic today, Apr. 12 at Glenmoor Country Club. This rounds out the Oiler's regular season and is the first time in program history that the team has gone unbeaten. The Oilers finished at thirty-over par (304, 302) to win over conference rival Tiffin University.  

The Oilers have earned the individual title in every event since March. Following her teammates' lead, freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy stole the top spot. She finished at two-over par shooting rounds of 73 and 73. M. Mulcahy led the field in par four scoring, playing them three-over par for the tournament. She came in second in par three scoring finishing at two-under par. She averaged 2.75 on par threes, 4.15 on par fours, and 5.13 on par fives. This marks the Lima, Ohio native's first victory of her college career.  

Finishing right behind Mulcahy, was senior Kristina Kniesly. Kniesly finished at four-over par to finish in solo second. She carded rounds of 72 and 76. Kniesly has won two tournaments this spring and has not finished outside the top-four since October of 2021.  

Senior Jill Schmitmeyer finished in a tie for fourth at six-over par. She finished with rounds of 76 and 74. Sophomore Sarah Scarpill rounded out her starting five debut at eighteen-over par. She carded rounds of 83 and 79 to put her in a tie for 34th. Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Gabby Woods. Woods finished in a tie for 41st at 21-over par (84,81).  

The Oilers sent a "B Team" to the event. The team finished in sixth out of fifteen teams at 38-over par (319,317).  

They were led by freshman Erin Mulcahy. After being tied for the lead after round one, E. Mulcahy finished in a tie for tenth. She finished at nine-over par with rounds of 72 and 81.  

Senior Danbi Kim finished in a tie for fifteenth at 11-over par. She carded rounds of 78 and 77. Junior Lexis Fickel finished in a tie for 36th at 20-over par (87,77). Sophomore Jordan Pruitt finished at 21-over par (82,83) and in a tie for 41st. Rounding out the Oiler's "B Team" was sophomore Abby Jones who finished in a tie for 56th at 28-over par (90,82). 

The Cav Classic concluded the Oilers regular season. The team will now look towards the postseason, beginning with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship, which will be played on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 18 and 19. The Oilers look to continue their win streak this spring as they hunt for their sixth straight win and their fourth straight G-MAC title.
