Oilers in Ninth at NCAA Championship | Look to Climb Leaderboard

Gainesville, Ga.- The University of Findlay women's golf team is currently in ninth place at the 2022 NCAA Division II Golf Championship which concluded round two today, May 11 at Chattahoochee Golf Club. They are thirty-over par for the tournament after an opening round 304 (+16) followed by a 302 (+14) in the second round. 

For the fourth time this spring, the Oilers are led by senior Kristina Kniesly. Kniesly, who is playing in her final collegiate tournament, is tied for sixth. After an opening round 71 (-1), she recorded a 73 (+1) today putting her at 144 (E) for the tournament. In Kniesly's round today she recorded three bogeys,two birdies, and thirteen pars. Kniesly has played the par fours at four-under par, averaging 4.50… the second best in the field. She also has recorded eight birdies in the two days which is the third best in the field. The top ten finishers will earn all-American honors.

Following Kniesly, is senior Jill Schmitmeyer. Schmitmeyer is nine-over par after carding a round of five-over par 77. She is in a tie for 45th place. Right behind Schmitmeyer is freshman Erin Mulcahy. E. Mulcahy is currently ten-over par after a round of two-over par 74 today. Freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy, who is coming off an individual region title, is at eleven-over par. Her round of six-over par, 78, puts her in a tie for 55th. Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Gabby Woods, who is in 96th place. Woods bounced back after a tough opening round, carding a six-over par 78 today to put her at twenty-over par for the tournament. 

The stroke play portion of the tournament concludes tomorrow, May 12, with a final 18 holes. The top eight teams will then move onto the medal match play portion which ultimately crowns the 2022 National Champions. The Oilers look to climb the leaderboard tomorrow.
