Oilers Kickoff Fall Campaign | Third at UIndy Fall Invite

Indianapolis, Ind.- The University of Findlay women's golf team kicked off their fall season today, Sept. 12 at the UIndy Fall Invitational. The defending national champions are right back to work as they compete in a stacked field, boasting some of the biggest names in Division II golf. Findlay, who was ranked no. 2 in the WGCA Coaches Poll, faces four other golf powerhouses, most notably no. 1 Dallas Baptist University. They also face no. 8 ranked Lee University, no. 11 ranked University of Indianapolis, and no. 16 ranked Grand Valley State University. After a 36-hole score of 583 (+7) the Oilers are in third place and trail Dallas Baptist by eight strokes and UIndy by one.

The Oilers shot an opening round of 285 (-3) which left them in first through 18-holes. They were led by sophomores Mary Kelly Mulcahy and Erin Mulcahy. The Mulcahy sisters fired an opening round 70 (-2). Assisting the Mulcahy's was senior Jill Schmitmeyer who fired off a round of 72 (E). Senior Danbi was right behind them with a round of 73 (+1). Rounding out the lineup was junior Gabby Woods who shot 75 (+3). Through the first round, Findlay led the tournament by four strokes. 

Findlay then shot a second round of 298 (+10) and finished the day at 583 (+7). Mary Kelly Mulcahy picked up right where she left off after round one. She shot a round of 73 (+1) and finished the day in a tie for fourth at one-under par. Following M. Mulcahy was senior Danbi Kim. Kim shot a second round 71 (-1) to finish the day at even par and in eighth place. Erin Mulcahy finished the day with a round of 77 (+5), she is in eleventh and is three-over par for the tournament. Jill Schmitmeyer came in with a round of 78 (+6) and is tied for 17th at six-over par. Rounding out the lineup was junior Gabby Woods. Woods finished the day with a 77 (+5) and is tied for 24th at eight-over par. 

Competing as individuals in the tournament are junior Sarah Scarpill, freshman Hayley Dye, and freshman Nicole Jones. Scarpill shot rounds of 76 (+4) and 75 (+3). She is tied for 20th at seven-over par. Dye also is in a tie for 20th at seven-over par after rounds of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4). Jones is tied for 42nd after rounds of 78 (+6) and 77 (+5). 

The Oilers will be back for the final round tomorrow, Sept. 13. They tee off at 9am.
