Oilers Finish Runner-Up at William Beall Fall Classic

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked fourth in the country, wrapped up play at their home tournament, the annual William Beall Fall Classic at Findlay Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Unable to hold off a charge by the 15th-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers, the Oilers finished runner-up in the event, posting a team score of 308 (+20) on the final day for a three-round total of 901 (+37), three shots behind GVSU.

Sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy was the top finisher for the Oilers as she earned all-tournament honors with a third-place finish. On Tuesday, the Lima, Ohio native, who held the overnight lead, slid down two spots after a 77 (+5). That gave her a 54-hole score of 217 (+1).

Three spots behind her was senior Jill Schmitmeyer who also turned in a 77 (+5) today to shoot a three-round total of 222 (+6). Junior Gabby Woods turned in her best round of the event, using three birdies to shoot a 74 (+2). That score placed her in 12th overall with a 229 (+13).

Senior Danbi Kim and sophomore Erin Mulcahy each tied for 24th in the event, finishing with 36-hole scores of 236 (+20). Kim posted an 80 (+8) while Mulcahy shot a final round 82 (+10).

Tuesday's tournament highlight came from University of Missouri-St. Louis sophomore Tove Brunell who carded a 64 (-8) to climb into her spot as the individual runner-up. That final round set a new Findlay Country Club women's course record.

The Oilers are back on the course with a trip south to Dahlonega, Georgia for the LeeAnn Noble Memorial on Oct. 10-11.
