Woods Fires School Record 66 | Oilers in Third Through 36

Sevierville, Tenn. - The University of Findlay women's golf team made big moves on Monday, March 13, the second day of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being hosted by Tennessee Tech University and held at the par-71, 5,803-yard Highlands Course at the Sevierville Golf Club. After sitting in seventh through 18 holes, Findlay jumped up four spots and now resides in third against a field largely consisting of Division I programs. On Monday, the Oilers shot a 293 (+9) to move up the board and is in third with a 36-hole score of 599 (+31), four shots out of second and 12 shots out of first.

The highlight of the day belongs to junior Gabby Woods who set a new 18-hole school record with a round of 66 (-5). After struggling in Sunday's opening round, Woods came out hot on Monday, making birdie on her opening hole, the par-four seventh, which is playing more than a half-shot over par so far this week. After a bogey on the tenth hole, Woods rebounded with a birdie on the par-3 11th. A bogey on 13 made the Findlay standout even-par through seven holes.

Woods then went into another gear, making birdie on three of her next four holes to reach three-under. Birdies on holes three and five put her five-deep with just the par-three sixth remaining. Woods converted for par, making her the first female at Findlay to card a round of 66.

It is the first time a round of five-under has been recorded since Meredith Wipper shot 67 (-5) at the Findlay Spring Invite in 2021. It is just the eighth time in the storied history of the program that a player has recorded a score of –5.

With her round on Monday, Woods jumped 30 spots and now sits in a tie for third with a two-day score of 144 (+2).

Sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy and senior Jill Schmitmeyer each turned in scores of 75 (+4) on the day. Mulcahy is in tenth with one round to play and currently has a score of 149 (+7). Schmitmeyer is in a tie for 25th with a 154 (+12).

Senior Danbi Kim is in a tie for 16th with a 152 (+10) after firing a second-round score of 77 (+6) while junior Sarah Scarpill is in 50th after an 82 (+11) on Monday.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Erin Mulcahy shot 74 (+3) on Monday and currently sits in T11.

The final round will be played tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14, with a shotgun start at 9:00 am.
