Sevierville, Tenn.- The University of Findlay women's golf team fell short of a late tournament comeback on Tuesday, March 14, the final day of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was hosted by Tennessee Tech University and was held at the par-71, 5,803-yard Highlands Course at the Sevierville Golf Club. After sitting in seventh through 18 holes, Findlay jumped up four spots on day two to find themselves in third heading into the final round. Despite their best efforts, the Oilers would finish second, just three behind Austin Peay State. Findlay shot a 298 (+14) to move up one spot on the leaderboard finishing runner-up with a 54-hole score of 897 (+45).

Leading the Oilers this week was junior Gabby Woods. Woods, who set a new 18-hole school record yesterday with a round of 66 (-5), finished the tournament strong today, recording a 70 (-1). In combination with her first round 78 (+7), Woods finished as the individual tournament champion, recording a 54-hole score of 214 (+1). This is the Sabina, Ohio native's fourth tournament win of her career, her second coming at the 2022 Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. She is the tournament's only two-time winner since its inception in 2013. This week, Woods led the field in par-five scoring as she went five-under, averaging 4.67.

Assisting Woods was sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy. M. Mulcahy recorded rounds of 74 (+3), 75 (+4), and 76 (+5) to give her a three-day total of 225 (+12), putting her in a tie for sixth. Finishing right behind her was senior Danbi Kim. Kim's 54-hole score of 226 (+13) left her in a tie for eighth. She carded rounds of 75 (+4), 77 (+6), 74 (+3). Senior Jill Schmitmeyer shot rounds of 79 (+8), 75 (+4), and 78 (+7) to leave her in a tie for 20th with a three-day total of 232 (+19). Rounding out the lineup for the Oilers was junior Sarah Scarpill who recorded rounds of 79 (+8), 82 (+11), 79 (+8), giving her a 54-hole total of 240 (+27). She finished in a tie for 42nd.

Competing as an individual in the event was sophomore Erin Mulcahy. E. Mulcahy recorded rounds of 76 (+5), 74 (+3), and 76 (+3) to give her a three-day total of 226 (+13). She finished in a tie for eighth.

As a team, the Oilers led the field in both par four and par five scoring. One key difference between Findlay and the tournament champion, Austin Peay was their par three scoring. The Oilers played the holes at +32 for the week while Governors played them nearly ten shots better at +23. However, the Oilers recorded the best 18-hole scores on both day two and day three.

Findlay will be back in action March 18 and March 19 for the SVSU Spring Invite.
