Women's Golf Wins SVSU Spring Invite | Mary Kelly Mulcahy Takes Medalist

Georgetown, Ky. - The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked sixth in the country in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division II poll, brought home their first victory of the spring on Sunday, March 19. The Oilers shot a final round 296 (+8) to secure the win at the SVSU Spring Invite which was being held at Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Kentucky. For the defending national champions, it's the first tournament win since the team took first at the Gildas Club Laker Fall Invite back in September and is the 12th team tournament title since the year 2020.

Leading Findlay in the victory was sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy who picked up the third individual title of her young career, adding to the Cav Classic and the NCAA DII East Regional, both of which were played last spring.

After a first-round score of 74, Mulcahy came back today with a 73 (+1) for a 36-hole total of 147 (+3). She was rock solid to begin her day, making par on each of her first nine holes before making a bogey on the tenth. Birdies on 11, 12, and 14 took her to two-under, where she would remain through 16 holes. She made double on 17 and bogey on 18 to close her day, but had built up a large enough lead to still win the individual title by five strokes.

Finishing in a tie for second was senior Jill Schmitmeyer who rallied after an 80 (+8) yesterday to shoot 70 (-2) today, the lowest round by any player in the field this weekend. Schmitmeyer began on the fourth hole and after starting with five consecutive pars, got red hot, making birdie on holes 9, 11, 13, and 14 to get to four-under through 14. That run launched the St. Mary's, Ohio native up the leaderboard as she would finish the weekend with a 152 (+8).

The final top-ten finish in the lineup came from sophomore Erin Mulcahy who snagged a tie for ninth in the event after she shot a 76 (+4) on Sunday, giving her a two-round total of 155 (+11).

Senior Danbi Kim shot a pair of 78s (+6) on the weekend to finish with a 156 (+12) in a tie for 12th while junior Gabby Woods shot 77 (+5) on Sunday for a two-round total of 162 (+18), giving her a T32 finish.

Playing as an individual this weekend, freshman Hayley Dye shot 74 (+2) on Sunday to finish in a tie for ninth with a 155 (+11).

The Oilers will stay in Kentucky for another two-day event as they play host to the UF Spring Invite which will take place over the next two days, March 20-21 at UK Club's Big Blue Golf Course.
