Oilers Lead Loaded Field at Findlay Spring Invite in Lexington

Lexington, Ky. – The University of Findlay women's golf team is playing host to the Findlay Spring Invite which began on Monday, March 20 at the University Club of Kentucky's Big Blue Course. Play was suspended in the second round due to darkness and will be resumed tomorrow morning. Through 29 holes, Findlay, ranked sixth in the country, sits atop the leaderboard at +11 after shooting 302 (+14) in the first round before going three-under through 11 holes of the second.  

The tournament is hosting four top-25 teams including three who made the medal match play portion of the national championship last season. Anderson University, ranked fifth, is in second while Missouri-St. Louis, ranked 22nd, is in fourth. Limestone University, ranked 14th in the country, sits in fifth. Findlay, Anderson, and Limestone all made the final eight last season with Findlay and Limestone squaring off in the national championship match which was won by the Oilers. 

On Monday, junior Gabby Woods, who was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Week the same day, shot 72 (E) in the first round and is one-under through 11 holes in round two. She sits in second on the individual leaderboard. 

Senior Jill Schmitmeyer is tied for third after a 75 (+3) to start and a one-under effort thus far in round two. In a tie for eighth is sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy while Erin Mulcahy is close behind in a tie for 12th. M. Mulcahy is +4 through 29 holes while E. Mulcahy is +6. 

Senior Danbi Kim is tied for 35th after an 82 (+10) in the opening round and a +2 effort through 11 holes of round two. 

Freshman Hayley Dye, playing as an individual, is tied for 39th at +14 for the event. 

Play is scheduled to be resumed at 9:30 am tomorrow.
