E. Mulcahy Shoots 69 | #6 Oilers Take Runner-Up at Findlay Spring Invite

Lexington, Ky. – The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked sixth in the country, came up just short on the second day of the 2023 Findlay Spring Invite which was held at the University Club of Kentucky the past two days. On Tuesday, March 21, teams played the final seven holes of round two as well as all 18 holes of the final round and the Oilers, which spent most of the day in first, took runner-up after going +12 as a team over the final four holes of play. The Oilers ended up shooting a 54-hole score of 894 (+30). Anderson University (SC), ranked fifth in the country, posted the lowest team score of the week, a 291 (+3) in the final round to take the tournament title. 

The tournament hosted four top-25 teams including three who made the medal match play portion of the national championship last season. Anderson University, ranked fifth, won while Missouri-St. Louis, ranked 22nd, took third. Limestone University, ranked 14th in the country, finished in fifth. Findlay, Anderson, and Limestone all made the final eight last season with Findlay and Limestone squaring off in the national championship match which was won by the Oilers. 

Senior Jill Schmitmeyer was the top finisher for Findlay as she put together a good couple of days, finishing in a tie for fourth with a 222 (+6). She ranked second in the field in par five scoring at –3 for the week and carded rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) in her final 36 holes.  

Junior Gabby Woods was consistent again this week and finished tied for sixth, posting scores of 74 (+2) and 77 (+5) for a 54-hole score of 223 (+7). 

On Tuesday, it was sophomore Erin Mulcahy who made the biggest jump, vaulting up 12 spots in the final 18 holes to finish in eighth place in the event. E. Mulcahy was one of two players in the field to break 70 on the week, shooting a final-round 69 (-3), a collegiate-best, to finish in eighth with a 224 (+8). 

Close behind was sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy who snagged a top-ten finish, tying for ninth after rounds of 73 (+1) and 76 (+4) closed out her tournament. M. Mulcahy had a 54-hole score of 225 (+9). 

Senior Danbi Kim rounded out the top-five's scoring with rounds of 78 (+6) and 82 (+10), closing the event with a T46 finish (242 | +26). 

Playing as an individual, freshman Hayley Dye finished tied for 54th with a 245 (+29).
