Oilers Lead Cav Classic | Five Players in Top-Ten

Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's golf team braved the wintery conditions at the Cav Classic, Monday, April 17. The two day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by Walsh University at the 5,965 yard, par 72, Glenmoor Country Club. Despite the inclement weather, the Oilers recorded a 308 (+20) are currently in first place.

Leading the Oilers was junior Gabby Woods. The Sabina, Ohio native is in solo first after recording a round of 74 (+2). Despite making a triple bogey early in the round, Woods was able to regroup- going one-under par in her final nine holes. She led the field in par-five scoring as she averaged 4.50. 

Right behind her was senior Jill Schmitmeyer who is in solo second. She carded an opening round of 75 (+3). The St. Marys native recorded a rollercoaster of a round-with three double-bogeys, two bogeys, five birdies, and just eight pars. 

Freshman Hayley Dye recorded a round of 79 (+7) to start the tournament. She is in a tie for eighth. Sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy finished the day with an 80 (+8). This is the first time M.K. Mulcahy has recorded a round in the 80s since October 11 at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial. She is in a tie for twelfth. Rounding out the lineup for the Oilers was senior Danbi Kim. Kim is tie for 21nd with a round of 83 (+11).

Competing as individuals in the event are sophomore Erin Mulcahy and junior Sarah Scarpill. E. Mulcahy is tied for third after an opening round 77 (+5). Meanwhile, Scarpill is tied for sixth after recording a 78 (+6).

The Oilers will be back for the final round, Tuesday, April 17.
