Findlay Falls to Slippery Rock on Spring Break Road Trip

Slippery Rock, Pa. - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team took to the road for spring break, heading east to Pennsylvania for a pair of games. In their first game, Monday, Feb. 27 the Oilers faced adverse conditions with rain, wind, and temperatures hovering around freezing. They would fall to Slippery Rock University, 15-6. With this loss the Oilers have now loss three straight, bringing their record to 0-3 on the season. 

The first quarter saw back-and-forth action, ending with a score of 5-3 in favor of the Rock. Slippery Rock capitalized in the second quarter, scoring four goals while not allowing the Oilers to score.  

The Oilers were able to hold Slippery Rock to just two goals during the third quarter while senior Danielle Dilorenzo added a goal to the Oilers' total. Despite, scoring two goals in the fourth quarter, Findlay was not able to catch the home team.

Junior Madeline Shewbridge recorded two goals on the day while adding an assist and two ground balls. Senior Danielle Dilorenzo also scored two goals, recorded five draw controls and one caused turnover. Freshman Tessa Chuba and sophomore Olivia Alvarado both chipped in, scoring one goal each. Alvarado also recorded four draw controls and one caused turnover.

Junior Erin Kodger played well defensively, grabbing three ground balls and causing one turnover. Senior goalkeeper Rachel Bornstein had six ground balls and 12 saves.  

The Oilers recorded just ten shots on goal while the Rock recorded an impressive 27. Findlay had 23 turnovers and Slippery Rock had just 18. Ground balls were near even for both teams, Findlay recording 17 and Slippery Rock 19.  

The Oilers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 1 when they travel to Bloomington, Pennsylvania to play Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 3pm.
