Lybarger Wins National Title

Junior Michael Lybarger of The University of Findlay wrestling team capped off a brilliant season by winning a national championship on Saturday, March 12 at the 2011 NCAA Division II National Tournament in Kearney, Nebraska.

Lybarger, who finished the event with a 4-0 record, reached the finals with a 6-5 win over Augustana's Gavin Nelson. He then needed overtime to put away Gannon's Zack McKendree as he claimed the 165-pound title with a 5-1 victory.

The Fredericktown, Ohio native became the Roughnecks seventh NCAA Division II champion and also set the single season school record for wins, posting a 39-4 mark during the 2010-11 campaign.

Dan Stevenson placed seventh in the 197-pound weight class to earn All-American honors for Findlay as the senior ended his career with a 3-2 run at the national tournament.

Stevenson earned seventh place honors after posting a 2-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha's Matt Baker.

As a team, the Roughnecks finished 14th with 26 points as Nebraska-Omaha won their third straight title with 102.5 points.
