Brackets Set for National Championship

The 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship brackets have been set. The Roughnecks will send four individuals to the championship meet, which is scheduled to take place on March 9-10 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Junior Josh Wimer will compete in the 149-pound weight class and is scheduled to battle Upper Iowa's Damian Penichet in the opening round. Wimer has a 19-13 record on the year while Penichet, who is ranked 12th in his weight class, has a 26-10 mark on the season.

At 174, sophomore Nate Vandermeer will open the tournament against Minnesota State's Zach Johnston in the opening round. Vandermeer has a 25-16 record this season while Johnston, who is ranked fourth nationally, has accumulated an overall record of 21-6.

Senior Bradley Metz, who is ranked fourth in the nation, will begin the tournament with a match against Notre Dame's Tony Vezzetti. Metz has a 30-5 record this season while Vezzetti, who is ranked eighth nationally, has a 15-5 mark.

In the heavyweight division, senior Mimmo Lytle will square off against St. Cloud State's Lawrence Phillips in the opening round. Lytle, who is ranked seventh, has a 27-9 record. Phillips meanwhile is 29-5 and is ranked 12th.
