Wimer Wins Title | Earns G-MAC Wrestler of the Meet

The 15th-ranked University of Findlay Roughnecks finished fourth at the 2020-21 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship, which was held on Jan. 23 in Owensboro, Ky. The Roughnecks accumulated 73.0 points at the championship while 9th-ranked Ashland University won the event with 115.0 points. 17th-ranked Tiffin University placed second with 75.5 points and Lake Erie College was third with 73.5 points.

Senior James Wimer led the Roughnecks by picking up a conference title in the 157-pound weight class. Wimer, who is ranked third in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) individual rankings, went 3-0 at the event to take home the gold. He began the championship by pinning Tiffin's Kolby Crowe in 2:29 and then knocked off Lake Erie's Jacob Potok in the semifinals by a 5-0 decision. Wimer then scored an 8-3 decision against Ashland's Drew Wiechers, who is ranked tenth individually, for the title in the final. For his efforts, Wimer was voted the 2020-21 G-MAC Wrestler of the Meet.

Sophomores Branson Proudlock, Hunter Reed, and Danny Rosales all recorded runner-up finishes in their respective weight classes as well. Proudlock went 2-1 at 141, Reed finished 1-1 at 165, and Rosales finished at 1-1 in the 184-pound weight class.

Junior Keigan Yuhas posted a third place finish in the 184-pound weight class with a 2-1 record while sophomore Jacob Charette was third in the heavyweight division with 4-1 mark.

Senior Zachary Collins went 2-2 at 125 to take fourth, senior Michael Stewart finished 2-2 to take fourth at 141, junior Mark Trifelos was 1-2 at 174 to finish fourth, and freshman Jacob Kowalski went 2-2 at 197 to also secure a fourth place finish.
