#11 Roughnecks in Seventh against National Powerhouses at Midwest Classic

Indianapolis, Indiana – The University of Findlay wrestling team completed day one of the Midwest Classic on Saturday, Dec. 18 hosted by the University of Indianapolis. The Roughnecks, ranked no. 11 in the country, took on 41 other teams including the no. 1 ranked University of Central Oklahoma. Findlay currently sits in seventh out of the 42 teams with 46.5 points scored.  

The tournament format is double elimination.  

Freshman Ashton Anderson, wrestling at 133, won by major decision over Tyler Krause 9-0 in round one of the winner's bracket. In round two, Anderson fell to Brandon Borlinghaus (Drury) 6-3 by fall in 2:27. Then in round two of the consolation bracket, Anderson won by decision over Stefano Mckinney (San Francisco State) 8-6. In round three, Anderson won over Ben Fielding (Belmont Abbey) 12-6.  

Ranked fifth in the country, junior Branson Proudlock, wrestling at 141 pounds, won by major decision over Nico D`amico (Queens), 14-2 in round one of the winner's bracket. In round two Proudlock won by major decision over Laken Boese (Mary), 12-2. In the quarterfinals Proudlock won by decision over Kolton Roth (Northern State) 8-3. 

Ranked first in the country, senior James Wimer took to the mat at 157 pounds. Wimer won by fall in 3:59 over Dylan Mansor (Tiffin) in the preliminary. In round one of the winner's bracket Wimer won by fall in 0:30 over Jackson Carter (Ouachita Baptist). In round two, Wimer won by decision over Jose Champagne (McKendree), 3-2. In the quarterfinals Wimer won by decision over no. 14 John Ridle (Central Missouri), 5-3. 

At 174 pounds, junior Hunter Reed won round one of the winner's bracket with a fall over Austin Morgan (Central Missouri) in 4:55. In round two, Reed lost by decision to no. 7 Andrew Sams (Indianapolis), 5-3. In round two of the consolation bracket, Reed won by fall in 4:53 over Cody Lewis (Adams State). In round three, Reed won by decision over Freddie Garcia (King), 6-3. 

Junior Jacob Charente at 197 pounds lost his first preliminary against Tereus Henry (Fort Hays State) by fall in 6:31 before winning the second prelim against Gregory Dennard (Bluefield State) by major decision 11-0. In round one of the consolation bracket, Charette won by medical forfeit over Steven Abbott (Minnesota State - Moorhead). Then in round two, Charette won by fall over Ivan Balavage (Newman) in 4:21. In round three, Charette would fall to Kaleb Haven (Newberry) by decision, 9-8. 

Findlay will return to the mats tomorrow on Dec. 19, where they look to climb up the leaderboard.
