#11 Roughnecks Finish in Eighth, Wimer and Proudlock Win at Midwest Classic

Indianapolis, Indiana – The University of Findlay wrestling team completed the Midwest Classic on Sunday, Dec. 19 hosted by the University of Indianapolis. The Roughnecks, ranked no. 11 in the country, took on 41 other teams including the no. 1 ranked Central Oklahoma University. Findlay finished eighth out of the 42 teams with 73.0 points scored.  

Ranked fifth in the country, junior Branson Proudlock, wrestling at 141 pounds, continued his win streak to lead him to win his class.  He started the day with a win in the semifinal over Colby Smith (Lindenwood), 4-2. He then won the first-place match against Nate Keim (Central Oklahoma), 4-3. 

Ranked first in the country, senior James Wimer took to the mat at 157 pounds. Wimer also won his class. Wimer won the semifinal match against Nick Young (Gannon) 3-3 (MD 16-4) by a major decision of 16-4. He then won again in the first-place match against James Burks (Northern State) by a 9-2 decision. Wimer was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the meet for his efforts.

At 174 pounds, junior Hunter Reed finished in eighth place. He won the fourth round against Ryan Fidel (Colorado School of Mines) by a 2-0 decision. Reed went on to fall to Brock Biddle (Pitt.-Johnstown) by fall in 1:10. Reed then fell to Joseph Petrella (Gannon) due to a medical forfeit. 

Findlay will return to the mats Jan. 18, 2022 as they travel to Gunnison, Colo. for the Tracy Borah Duels.
