Wimer Earns Athlete of the Week Following Midwest Classic

Findlay, Ohio - University of Findlay senior wrestler James Wimer has been named Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Dec. 22 following another dominating performance this past week on the mat.

Wimer, who wrestles in the 157-pound weight class, swept his way through his bracket at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, one of the largest Division II wrestling events in the country that saw 44 teams from 22 states competing. Ranked no. 1 in the country, Wimer went 5-0 on the weekend, defeating opponents from Ouachita Baptist, McKendree, Central Missouri, Gannon and Northern State, in order.

He began the weekend with a 30-second pin and in the semifinals, recorded a 16-4 major decision over Gannon's Nick Young. In the finals, a dominant 9-2 decision sealed his weekend and was enough to earn him the title as the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Midwest Classic, a designation given to just one wrestler at the event.
