Roughnecks Travel to Wisconsin | Compete in Jim Koch Wisconsin Open

Kenosha, Wis.- The University of Findlay Wrestling team traveled to Kenosha Wisconsin on Saturday Dec 3 to compete in the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open. The Roughnecks would tally up 128.5 total team points and have 7 members place in the top 6 of their weight classes. 

In the 141-weight class, freshmen Cade Cass racked up 16.5 team points and earned a 3rd place finish with a 5-1 record on the day. Cass started the day with a tech fall win over Aramis Rogel from Harper College. Cass would win his 3rd, 4th and 5th round matches over opponents from McKendree University, Northern State, and fellow roughneck junior Alex Epstein. Cass would move on to the third-place match and win by fall over his opponent in 2:09. 

Junior Logan Sanom would take 5th place in the 157-weight class earning the team 9 points and finishing 4-1 on the day. Sanom would start the day off with a bye in the first round and a loss in the second but would bounce back with 4 straight wins. His first win came in sudden victory over his opponent from Northern State, his 3rd round win came in the form of a 12-6 decision over his opponent from Joliet Junior College. Sanom would win by major decision in the Cons. Semifinal round and then would follow that up with a tech fall win in the 5th place match in 2:11. 

In the 165- weight class, Junior Andrew Knicks would tally up 10 team points and finished the day 3-3 for a 6th place finish. Knicks would get a bye in both the 1st and 3rd round. He would win by decisions in both the 4th (5-2) and 5th (2-0) rounds. Knicks would win by fall in the 6th round in 4:43. 

Senior Hunter Reed would bring home a second-place finish in the 174-weight class with a 3-1 record and added 20 team points for the Roughnecks. Reed would with by fall in his first 2 matches in 1:20 and 1:48 respectively. Reed would go on to win his third match in an 8-6 decision in the semifinal round.  

Senior Mark Trifelos finished the day 3-2 in the 184-weight class and added 14 total team points. Trifelos would win by a 6-0 decision in the opening round. He would win his 3rd and 5th match by fall in 2:33 and 2:51. 

Freshmen Kenyon Cole would take 5th place in the 197-weight class finishing the day 3-2 and earning the Roughnecks another 11 team points. Cole would win his 2nd match of the day on an injury default in 2:24. He would go on to win his 3rd match in a 6-0 decision and rounded out his day with a fall win the 5th place match in 2:25. 

Senior Keigan Yuhas would round out the day for the Oilers with a 3rd place finish in the Heavy Weight Class with a 4-1 record earning the Roughnecks 20.5 team points. Yuhas would win his first and second match of the day by fall in 4:02 and 5:52. He would continue this streak with another fall win in his 4th match of the day, this time in 1:10. In the 3rd place match Yuhas would win with a 7-0 decision.
