Findlay Suffers Narrow Loss to #21 Ashland

Ashland, Ohio- Just two weeks after winning the Great Midwest Championship, the Roughnecks traveled back to Kates Gymnasium to take on the #21 Ashland Eagles in a regular season dual. With the two teams going back-and-forth throughout the day, it was the Eagles who came away with the 20-19 win.

The dual was kicked-off by junior Caleb Schroer in the 125 pound weight class who won due to forfeit, putting the first six points on the board for the Roughnecks. The Eagles answered back, putting three points of their own on the board with an overtime win in the 133 pound weight class.

With the score at 6-3 in favor of the Roughnecks, junior Gavin Ritter, wrestling in the 141 pound weight class, won by major decision over Ashland's Jake Sundenberg. Findlay then won the next matchup between junior Mason Kleinberg (149 lb.) and Ashland's Zander Graham with a pin at the two minute mark. This put Findlay up 16-3.

The Eagles would then go onto win the 157, 165, 174, 184, and 197 pound weight classes to bring the score to 20-16, in favor of the hometeam. With the heavyweight matchup left, senior Keigan Yuhas took on Ashland's Trey Petrey. Yuhas came away with the win, putting three points on the board for the Roughnecks, falling just short of their Great Midwest opponents.

The Roughnecks will be back in action Friday, Feb. 10, in Croy Gymnasium as they welcome the Tiffin Dragons.
