Findlay, OH-The University of Findlay women's soccer team defeated the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals in their first conference game of the season. This win gives the Oilers an overall record of 2-4 and a conference record of 1-0.
The Oilers and Cardinals battled in the first half of the game.
With 16 minutes left of the first half, sophomore Megan Kupetz scored off a breakaway assist from sophomore Marissa Swindell, which gave the Oilers the lead 1-0.
At the end of the first half, the Oilers had six shots with four shots on goal to the Cardinals 1 sho, with no shots on goal.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Cardinals put the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was taken back due to offsides by Saginaw. The Oilers still lead 1-0.
With eight minutes left in the game, senior defender Kate Prewitt received a yellow card right outside the box.
The Oilers defense lead by senior Kate Prewitt, senior Nicole Mikolcic, and junior goalkeeper Sarah Baer shut out the Cardinals in the second half to give the Oilers their first conference win of the season.
The Oilers will take the field again on Sunday, September 25 against the Northwood University Timberwolves at 3:00pm at DeHaven Field.
