Oilers Score Eight Goals in Shutout Win
Philippi, West Virginia- The University of Findlay women's soccer team took on Alderson Broaddus in an away conference match. The University secured their ninth victory of the season to remain undefeated in the 8-0 shutout. The Oilers move to a 9-0-1 (7-0-1) mark on the season and remain in first place in the conference.
The Oilers had a huge day of scoring on top of their ability to have an outstanding defensive effort. Senior Ashley Rings, in the 11th minute, broke open the scoring for the Oilers with a goal of her own. Following up Rings in the 21st minute, the freshman pair in Jayla Campbell and Sam Francis connected for an Oilers' goal off the foot of Campbell and the assist from Francis.
Staying in the same class, freshman Sage Schnell found the back of the net just a minute later in the 22nd minute. Just before the first half ended, yet another freshman got a piece of the scoring action. Freshman Addie Graham put the Oilers up 4-0 with her goal prior to the teams heading into halftime.
It wouldn't take long for the Oilers to get right back on the scoring train when the second half began. Beginning in the 53rd minute to the 59th minute, the Oilers knocked in three goals. In the 53rd minute, senior Sierra Peacock scored a goal to make the score 5-0. Soon after, sophomore Adele Strading made it 6-0 in the Oilers favor in the 57th minute then Peacock answered back with her second goal of the game in the 59th minute.
The Oilers went on to score one more goal coming off the foot of Strading again in the 78th minute for her second goal of the contest. Strading ended the game with a team high 5 shots. Seven total Oilers ended the game with multiple shots and a total of 15 players contributed to the shot column.
Looking from the defensive side of the game, the Oilers were able to show their strength. The Oilers were able to secure their seventh shutout victory, and their fifth straight shutout victory. Along with this statistic, the Oilers held the Battlers shotless in the 90 minutes of play. The Oilers held a 31-0 margin in shots taken, and 21-0 shots on goal margin.
The Oilers will look to ride the momentum into the next contest against conference competitor Lake Erie College. The contest is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start on Friday, October 25 at home.
