Oilers Advance to Semis | Defeat Pioneers 3-0

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's soccer team competed in the quarterfinal round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, November 9 against Malone University. The Oilers went on to win the contest in shutout fashion by a score of 3-0. With the victory, the Oilers advance to the semi-final match of the G-MAC tournament and improve their record to 14-1-1 on the year.

Right from the start, the Oilers held the momentum as they scored three goals in the first half of play. In the 10th minute, the Oilers got on the board with a goal from freshman Jayla Campbell off the assist by freshman Addie Graham. The scoring continued in the 20th minute as well when senior Sierra Peacock put one through the back of the net and pushed the score to 2-0 in the Oilers' favor. Just before the half ended, freshman Adele Stradling booted one from the top of the box over the reaching hands of the Pioneers' goalkeeper in the 44th minute. The half ended in a 3-0 advantage for the Oilers.

The second half did not see the Oilers score again, but the patented Oilers defense continued to play strong to secure the quarterfinal victory and hold the Pioneers from making a comeback. The shutout victory marks the 10th shutout of the year in 16 games. In the end, the Oilers held the advantage in shots taken by a 9-7 margin and tied with the Pioneers with six shots on goal each. Peacock led the Oilers with three shots and the freshman pair in Graham and Campbell added two shots a piece. Senior goalkeeper Anna Money secured six saves.

The Oilers punch their ticket to the semi-final match where they await their opponent based off the other quarterfinal match versus Trevecca Nazerence and Ohio Dominican. The rest of the championship will be played in Dayton, Ohio at Roger Glass Stadium. The Oilers are scheduled to play on Thursday, November 14 at 2:30 p.m.
