Oilers Dominate Early to Win 4-0 over Pioneers

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's soccer took the field for the first time in 476 days since their last contest in the Division II Midwest Regional Tournament on November 23, 2019. The Oilers were victorious in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup with a shutout win over the Malone Pioneers, 4-0. The Oilers are now 1-0 (1-0) on the season whereas the Pioneers fall to 1-1 (0-1).

The Oilers wasted no time showing they were ready to go after the long wait to get back onto the playing field. Within five minutes of the opening whistle, the Oilers scored two goals to push the lead to 2-0 early. At the three minute mark, junior Olivia Frank scored her first goal of the season. Not too long after, sophomore Elizabeth Talabac scored off a cross by Frank in the fifth minute.

The Oilers scoring continued once more before the end of the first half when junior Brenna Shipley scored off an assist from sophomore Madison Mlsna in the 39th minute.

Right out of the half, the Oilers took control again as Frank was able to find the back of the net for the second time in the game in the 50th minute.

The Oilers were firing on all cylinders by outshooting the Pioneers by a 19-6 margin. Frank led the way taking four shots, all on goal, including one assist. Mlsna, Talabac, junior Sydney Demyan and junior Adele Stradling each shot twice.

On the defensive side, the Oilers were just as strong in their performance. Freshman Kennedy Slovak received her first career start and shutout win. Slovak had two saves. Senior Nicole Burke tallied one save for the Oilers as well.

The Oilers will have a few days of rest before taking the road for a three game road stretch. Their first contest will take place at Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, March 18th at 8:30 EST.
