Two First Half Goals Lift Oilers Win and into First Place

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's soccer team held their final regular-season home game of the year on Saturday, April 17 at DeHaven Field against the Tiffin University Dragons. The Oilers used two first-half goals to secure a 2-1 victory and improve to 6-1-1 on the year while the Dragons fall to 4-4-1. With the win, Findlay jumps to the top of the regular-season standings and needs just a tie on Monday, April 19 at Kentucky Wesleyan to earn their second consecutive regular-season title and earn the top seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament.

The game was a struggle early on as neither team was able to create good chances in the beginning minutes of the contest. Findlay did manage four shots in the first 30 minutes but none were on target. Almost 33 minutes into the game, freshman Hannah Rybicki benefited on a loose ball in the box after Tiffin's goalie failed to corral a shot by Sage Schnell. Rybicki punched the ball into the back of the net to give the Oilers the 1-0 lead.

Just eight minutes later Schnell found an opening from 25 yards and took a shot that sailed over Tiffin's leaping goalie, bounced off the crossbar, bounced off the back of the goalkeeper, and into the net. That score gave Findlay a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Dragons scored just six minutes into the second half to pull within a goal, but that was all as Findlay would escape with a one-goal win.

Freshman Kennedy Slovak picked up the win in the net as she played wire-to-wire and had two saves.

Schnell had four shots, three on goal, and one goal. Hannah Rybicki had three shots and one goal while Adele Stradling had two goals.

Findlay will head to Kentucky Wesleyan on Monday, April 19 to take on the Panthers. That game will kick off at 9:00 pm EST.
