Late Goal Lifts Oilers in Home Opener vs UIS

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's soccer team faced the University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday, Sept. 3 at DeHaven Field in the team's home opener. The Oilers came out on top with a 1-0 victory with an unassisted goal late in the game. With the win, Findlay improves to 1-1-1 on the year while UIS falls to 1-2-1.

It was a defensive match for both teams, neither scoring for the first 82 minutes of competition. Springfield attempted seven shots throughout the game, but the Oilers held them off.

Senior forward Madison Mlsna, scored the only goal of the game late in the second half. With just eight minutes remaining, Mlsna danced around the Prairie Stars' defense to score her first goal of the season, giving the Oilers the lead and ultimately the win.

Freshman goalie Audrey Gibson-Zweifel recorded three saves throughout the contest for Findlay to pick up the win.

Findlay managed 12 shots, four of which were on goal.

Senior Sage Schnell led the Oilers with three shots while Mlsna, freshman Payton Miller, and senior Elizabeth Talabac each had two.

The Oilers will play next Thursday, Sept. 8 against Malone University at 1pm.
