Findlay Falls Just Short to Cedarville

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's soccer team welcomed the Cedarville Yellow Jackets to town, Thursday, Sep. 29 for an important Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup. Both teams entered the game in second in the Great Midwest Standings. However, the Oilers fell just short, falling to Cedarville by a score of 2-1.

The first half saw little action by either team. Findlay recorded six shots on goal during the first 45 minutes of play while Cedarville recorded just four.

The second half was in favor of the Yellow Jackets. They recorded fifteen shots in the second half compared to the Oilers five shots. After a handball in the box by the Oilers, the Yellow Jackets were awarded a penalty kick leading to their first goal of the game in the 55th minute by Aleah Martone. The Oilers answered back three minutes later with a goal by senior Sage Schnell off assists from junior Alyssa Stark and senior Madison Mlsna. However, the lone goal would not be enough as the Yellow Jackets found the back of the net with time expiring. In the 86th minute Marisa Hoober scored from an assist by Emily Walton.

Despite the loss, freshman Audrey Gibson-Zweifel was dominant in the goal. She recorded nine saves of the eleven shots on goal.

The Oilers now fall to 5-4-1 on the season and 4-3-0 in conference play. Cedarville meanwhile moves to 7-2-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

Findlay will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 1 as they take on Ohio Dominican at DeHaven Field.
