Oilers Bow Out in G-MAC Semifinal | Fall to #13 Cedarville

Box Score

Cedarville, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's soccer team dropped out of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 3, losing by a score of 6-1 in the semifinal to top-seeded and no. 13 team in the country, the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. With the loss the Oilers have a record of 10-6-3 overall while Cedarville improves to 16-2-1. Findlay, which was ranked seventh in the last regional poll, will await the decision from the women's soccer regional advisory committee to see if their season will continue while the Yellow Jackets, now playing for the conference title and ranked second in the regional poll, will likely serve as a host to one of the two split regional sites.

On Thursday, it was all Cedarville as the home team outpaced the Oilers in nearly every facet of the game. In total, the Yellow Jackets blasted 26 shots to just 12 for Findlay.

The first goal of the game for CU came 28 minutes into the game, leading to a 1-0 score at halftime. From then on, the floodgates opened.

The Yellow Jackets scored the first two goals of the second half. The first came on a penalty kick just ten minutes in and the second, just two minutes later.

Freshman Payton Miller scored the lone goal of the night for the Oilers with 25 minutes to play, making the score 3-1.

Less than two minutes later, Cedarville answered to make the score 4-1. Ten minutes later the score jumped to 5-1 and ten minutes later, with two minutes remaining, the final nail in the coffin to make the score 6-1.

Miller, who score the only goal for Findlay, led the team with four shots, three of which were on goal. Junior Ellie Tischler, who today was named first team all-G-MAC, took two shots, both on goal. Junior Hannah Rybicki had two shots.

Freshman Audrey Gibson-Zweifel took the loss as she allowed four goals and made four saves. Sophomore Maria White played the final 19 minutes and allowed two goals while making one save.

For Cedarville, it was a true team effort as the six goals were each scored by six different players.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Ellie Tischler and Madison Mlsna were selected as the two representatives on the G-MAC All-Tournament team.

The Oilers now wait to see if their name will be called for a berth into the NCAA Midwest Regional. The DII Women's Soccer Selection Show will air on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 pm.
