Oilers Complete Day 1 of Findlay Invitational

The University of Findlay women's tennis team completed the opening day of competition at their Findlay Invitational on Aug. 28 at the Armstrong Sports Complex.

In the singles bracket, seniors Laiying Alvarado and Laura Brito reached the semifinals to lead the Oilers. Alvarado began the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lawrence Tech's Maria Nicholls and then defeated Findlay freshman Zuzanna Krygier 6-2, 6-0 to reach the semifinals. Brito meanwhile scored a 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 win over Findlay sophomore Emily Hadler in the first round before winning 6-1, 6-0 against Lawrence Tech's Samantha Kohn in round two.

In doubles competition, Hadler and sophomore Reagan Resor won the invitational by going 3-0. They began the day with a 6-3 win over Lawrence Tech's Alice Radde and Olga Aliagas Mejina before defeating Alvarado and junior Madison Arquette 7-5. They then captured the title with a win by default over Findlay freshman Lidia Laskova and senior Cristina Nieto Soto in the final. Laskova and Nieto Soto reached the final by defeating senior Samantha Sweet and Krygier 6-2 in the first round and winning 6-3 against Lawrence Tech's Samantha Kohn and Margot Fontaine in the second.

The invitational will wrap up tomorrow.
