Oilers Claim 3-1 Victory over Huskies

The University of Findlay volleyball team held off Michigan Technological University for a 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 29-27, 25-22) on Friday, Oct. 4 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers, who improved to 11-4 on the season with a 4-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with the victory, were led by senior Mackenzie Vorst and her 20 kills.

Vorst hit .292 for the match and also registered a double-double with 12 digs.

Freshman Hannah Tong came off the bench to record 15 kills while hitting .270 while senior Danielle Taflinger registered eight kills and hit .389 during the win.

Sophomore Julie Lyons picked up four kills and set a new career-high with 13 total blocks, the second highest single match mark in school history.

Sophomore Becca Shoemaker had nine digs while junior Amanda Calhoun registered eight digs to go along with team-high 46 assists.

Junior Samantha Granger also had nine digs in the victory.

As a team, the Oilers hit .300 for the match while the Huskies hit .196.

The Oilers will be back at home tomorrow to host Northern Michigan University at 2 p.m.
