Oilers Win TownePlace Suites Classic

The University of Findlay volleyball team ended the TownePlace Suites Classic with a 4-0 record after defeating Cedarville University by a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-22) margin on Sep. 12 in Croy Gymnasium.

Freshman Amanda Winner and sophomore Nickyla Garverick paced the team with 11 kills apiece. Garverick, who was a force on both sides of the net during the tournament, earned MVP honors.

 Junior Hannah Tong just missed out on double digit kills with nine while senior Andrea Roach had six.

Freshman Hailee Olson recorded 36 assists while senior Becca Shoemaker had a team-high ten digs.

Freshman Kara Scherger contributed nine digs while sophomore Madelyn McCabe had six digs and three aces.

For their efforts in the tournament, Olson earned a spot on the all-tournament team along with senior Julie Lyons, who had four kills and four blocks in the win over Cedarville.

The Oilers will return to action again on Sep. 18 when they open up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at Ashland University. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
