Volleyball Wraps Up UIndy Invite with Loss to Host Greyhounds

Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Findlay volleyball team wrapped up their trip to Indianapolis on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the UIndy Invite. The Oilers fell to the host school, the Indianapolis Greyhounds, by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-13) and fall to 0-3 on the year. With the win, Indy begins their 2022 campaign with a 2-1 record.

In the first set, both teams went back-and-forth and neither was able to take control. With the score tied at 15-15, Indy then closed the set with a 10-3 run to take the lead in the match.

Findlay then jumped out to a 7-2 advantage early in the second set, but the Greyhounds outscored the Oilers 23-10 to claim a 2-0 lead.

The third set was all Greyhounds as the home team never trailed, going on to a 25-13 victory to close out the match and pick up their second win of the year.

As a team, Findlay hit just .065, picking up 31 kills and making 24 attack errors. On the other side, Indy hit .342 including hitting .467 in the third and final set to close out the victory.

Sophomore Journey Blevins led Findlay with 12 kills but had 37 attacks for a hitting percentage of just .054. Junior Hannah Bruns played well, picking up ten kills while hitting .353. Of the team's 31 kills on the day, Blevins and Bruns accounted for 22 of them. Senior Emma Meyer chipped in four kills.

Freshman Emma White had a team-high 27 assists and tied the team-high with eight digs. Junior Alissa Rhodes also had eight digs in a losing effort.

The Oilers will now turn their attention towards a trip to the state of Alaska where they will play four matches in Fairbanks, 3,727 miles from Findlay. Those matches will be played Sep. 1-3.
