Oilers Win Six Straight | Take Down Trevecca 3-0

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay volleyball team welcomed Trevecca Nazarene University to campus for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) today Friday, Sep. 23. The Oilers won 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 26-24). They move to 8-7 on the year and 5-0 in the G-MAC. They have now won six straight games. Trevecca meanwhile falls to 10-5 on the year and 3-2in the G-MAC.

The day started with a canceled flight for the Trojans. After a hectic day of rerouting travel they finally made it at 7:08pm for a game that was originally scheduled for 7:00pm. After delaying the game and giving the Trojans adequate time to warm up, the game began around 7:55. 

The first set was in favor of the Oilers from start to finish. They scored the first three points and held the lead from there. Their biggest lead of the set was seven which was held multiple times most notably at 19-12. From there the Oilers went on a 6-1 stretch to close the set in favor of the home team.

The second set saw the Oilers take a quick start. They grabbed a 5-1 lead before Trevecca went on a 6-2 stretch to tie it at 7. From there the action was back-and-forth. The Oilers scored six straight points to keep themselves ahead. However, the Trojans would go on a 6-3 run to keep themselves in the match late. Nevertheless, a kill by Journey Blevins ended the set giving the Oilers a 2-0 lead.

The third set was Trevecca's for the taking. They grabbed the early lead at 6-2. From there, the Trojans held a three point lead for the majority of the rest of the set. With the Trojans leading 16-12, the Oilers went on a tear, rattling off eight points to the Trojan's one giving the Oilers a 20-18 lead. Trevecca wouldn't go away lightly as they tied the four times before making a service error followed by a massive kill by Norah Painter

As a team, Findlay hit .300, picking up 45 kills and making 15 errors. On the other side, Trevecca  hit .200 in the match and recorded 33 kills with 15 errors.

The Oilers found their groove in a newer face on the front line with freshman Alana Pohlman. Pohlman, who is third on the team in number of kills, had a breakthrough night for the Oilers. She recorded 14 kills at hit .500 on the night. She also had a team-high six blocks on the night.  

Assisting Pohlman tonight was sophomore Journey Blevins who recorded eleven kills and senior Norah Painter who chipped in nine kills. 

Freshman Emma White recorded 37 assists. 

Defensively, Blevins and White both contributed 8 digs. Senior Emma Meyer assisted Pohlman, recording five blocks.

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 24 as they take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in Croy Physical Education Center at 2pm.
