Oilers Battle Weather at All-Ohio Championship
The University of Findlay men's and women's cross-country teams were back in action for the first time in two weeks on Friday, October 3 as they traveled to Cerdarville, OH for the All-Ohio Collegiate Championships held at the Elvin R. King CC Course.
Due to impending rain, the schedule, which was to include two races for both the men and the women, changed, combining races and creating fields of 500+ participants in both contests.
Women:
The Oiler women finished in 15th as a team among 42 competing universities that gathered from all over the state of Ohio and spanned the three NCAA divisions.
Leading the way for Findlay was freshman Taylor Bolinger who finished in 16th place with her time of 22:49.06. That time places Bolinger with the 9th fastest 6k in Oiler history. Finishing in 34th with a time of 23:06.79 was sophomore Melanie Ruich, who places her mark as the 14th fastest 6k in the Findlay record book. Junior Samantha Grippe's 79th place finish with a time of 23:37 made it three Oilers to finish in the top 100.
Junior Erica Bettac finished just outside that group as she placed 108 with a time of 23:56.
Other finishers for the Oilers were junior Meredith Hoops (165, 24:33), sophomore Maud Sanmiquel (215, 25:08), junior McKenzie Mahlmeister (217, 25:11), sophomore Kailey Coleman (415, 28:10), and freshman Megan Martz (440, 29:07).
The race featured 503 racers.
Men:
As a team, the Oiler men placed 19th of 43.
Senior Jacob Hayes led the way as he finished in 30th with a time of 25:47. That time places Hayes with the 12th fastest in Oiler history.
Finishing in 81st with a time of 26:20 was senior Justin Eilerman while freshman Matias Trampe-Kindt was close behind with a time of 27:05, placing him in 158th.
Other finishers for Findlay included freshman Sean Stockmaster (236, 27:55), junior Derek Bornorst (293, 28:22), freshman Jacob Will (300, 28:26), sophomore Aaron Cingle (322, 28:40) and sophomore Seth Pemberton (476, 31:21).
The race featured 569 racers.
Both teams are back in action in two weeks, Friday, October 17, as they travel to Tiffin for the Pre-GLIAC Meet.
