Oilers Win 3rd Straight, Defeat Malone 35-21

The University of Findlay football team won their third straight game with a 35-21 victory over Malone University on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Canton, Ohio.  The win gives the Oilers a 7-3 record on the season with a 5-3 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Oilers pounded the rock all game long and ended the contest with 316 rushing yards.  They also possessed the ball for 33:57 and accumulated 26 first downs in the win.

Sophomore running back Daiquone Ford led the way with 37 carries for 209 yards and three touchdowns.  His three scores gives him 24 on the season, which is tied for the highest total in school history with Allen Smith (1965).

The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native has rushed for 1,789 yards this season, but did leave the game with an injury.

Freshman running back Anthony Linnear had 14 carries for 66 yards and a score while junior quarterback Devontae Payne registered six carries for 43 yards.  He also completed 10-of-19 passing attempts for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Junior wide receiver Lloyd Henry made four catches for 49 yards while junior Verlon Reed caught a 35-yard touchdown in the game.

Freshman defensive back Tory Clark led the defense with ten tackles, a forced fumble and an interception.

Junior defensive back Harold Jones-Quartey made nine stops and sophomore defensive lineman Austin Reichert contributed eight tackles.

Junior defensive end Kevin Brewton recorded 1.5 sacks in the game and now has ten on the season.  He also blocked a kick.

The Oilers will play their final home game of the year next Saturday when they host Walsh University at noon.
