Findlay Runs Away from KWC | Earns Lopsided Win in Owensboro
Owensboro, Ky. – The University of Findlay football team went on the road on Saturday, April 3 to take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. The Oilers improved to 4-0 in the series against the Panthers with a 54-6 throbbing of the home team, the third time in the series that Findlay has won by more than 40 points. With the win, Findlay is now 3-0 at the halfway point of the season while Kentucky Wesleyan falls to 0-2.
On the ensuing Panthers possession, running a play from the 50 yard line, a KWC fumble was scooped up by Findlay's Christopher Jefferson who then found the end zone for the score and his second defensive touchdown in as many games.
The Oilers lead ballooned to 30-0 before the Panthers were finally able to score on a drive that was set up by an interception on Findlay's side of the field. Two more scores by the Orange and Black, including a 26-yard touchdown reception by the G-MAC leader in receiving TDs, Marlin Richardson, and the Oilers had a 40-6 lead at halftime.
Findlay got a touchdown in the middle of the third quarter on a rush by Garret Clark to take a 47-6 lead and then put in the second unit and took the foot off the gas.
From that point on, the Oilers ran the ball 21 times to just one pass as they would roll to a 48-point victory.
In the game, Findlay ran for 257 yards and threw for 157 for 414 yards of total offense. The Panthers struggled to break a stout Oilers defense, managing just 92 yards on the ground and 117 through the air.
Aidan Eubanks led the Oilers on the ground as he tallied his first 100+ yard performance at the collegiate level. Eubanks carried the ball 16 times for 104 yards while Brian Benson ran 11 times for 60 yards. Those yards put Benson over the 2,000 yard rushing mark for his career.
Matt Winzeler was 12-21 in the game for 151 yards and one score, a rather pedestrian game for the league leader in touchdowns thrown and quarterback efficiency. Austin Watt was the top target as he made three catches for 50 yards while Mike Rigerman had three receptions for 30 yards and a score.
Kicker Austin Snyder made a pair of field goals in the contest.
Findlay returns home next week to take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers at Donnell Stadium. That game will kick off at 6:00 pm.
