Findlay Oilers (0-2, 0-2 G-MAC)

Through two weeks, the Findlay Oilers are still looking for the first win of the year after beginning the season with two of the multiple top-tier programs in the Great Midwest. While its' easy to look back and want to do things differently in those games, the Orange and Black cannot take the time to do that as a high-powered offense comes to Donnell Stadium this Saturday in the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. Last season the game was a shootout and, based off the numbers from the early weeks of the season, the 2022 version of the game may be similar.

Senior quarterback Jeremy Hunt is two weeks into his time at Findlay and is adjusting to the Oilers' offensive scheme. Hunt has completed 33 passes in two games and has thrown for 363 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior Tanner Schroeder has been the big threat at receiver, compiling 122 yards on ten receptions through two games. He is also handling the bulk of the punting duties and has eight punts for 303 yards, an average of 37.9 yards per punt and a season-long of 65 yards.

Defensively, junior Grey Brancifort leads the Great Midwest through two weeks with 24 tackles. Marqis Stokes is second on the team with 21 tackles and has a tackle-for-loss. From his spot at safety, senior Kijana Caldwell has 19 tackles.

About the Opponent – Southwest Baptist (1-1, 0-0 GLVC)

With the Southwest Baptist Bearcats, one word comes to mind. Offense. Over the course of the last three seasons, the team from Bolivar, Missouri has scored 31 points per game, but playing in the defense-optional Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), which in 2021 had six of its' eight teams score more than 31 points per game, SW Baptist ranked sixth in the conference in scoring. Where the team hurt themselves was on defense as they ranked sixth in the conference in that stat, as well, allowing 40.3 points per game. That recipe added up to a 4-7 season a year ago, including a 62-41 loss to Findlay.

This year has started in similar fashion as, two weeks in, the Bearcats have been a part of two blowouts. The opener was a 41-17 victory on the road against Texas Permian Basin which was receiving votes in the national preseason coaches' poll. Last week, it was a tougher test as SW Baptist hosted #6 West Florida and suffered a 49-10 loss.

Running back Carter Abel is the team's big threat through two games this year. Now in the starting role after serving as the backup last season, Abel already has 280 rushing yards on 41 carries and leads the team with three touchdowns scored. All three of those TDs came in the season opener against Permian Basin where he checked in with 22 carries and 173 yards.

The quarterback will be gunslinger Cooper Callis who, last season, threw for 3,712 and 35 touchdowns. Callis, the reigning back-to-back GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, is a 6-3 senior who has completed 31-of-55 passes this year for 395 yards and two scores. He has thrown a pair of interceptions, both of which came against West Florida last week. Callis will spread the ball around and has four receivers with at least 60 yards receiving. Jordan Kent leads the team with seven catches for 86 yards, but it is tight end Bryant Burns who has both touchdown receptions this season.

On defense, linebacker Coleton Smith, who last season was named second team all-American by the AFCA, is the leading tackler, amassing 11 stops through two games. No other defender has double-digit tackles this season. Defensive back Bryton Lewi has nine tackles while Jeran Seabolt and Brenden Smith each have eight.
